Bylaws of the Lodge of Research of New Mexico
The Lodge of Research, AF & AM of New Mexico, is organized to promote, encourage, conduct and foster Masonic research and study, for the purpose of spreading Masonic Light and knowledge.
ARTICLE I - MEMBERSHIP
Section 1. There shall be two classes of membership, Active and Associate.
Section 2. Active Membership. Any Master Mason who is a member of a constituent Lodge of this Grand Jurisdiction shall be eligible for Active Membership in this Lodge of Research. Such Active Membership shall continue only so long as such member is in good standing in a constituent Lodge of this Grand Jurisdiction.
Section 3. Associate Membership. Any person or organization interested in Masonic research may become an Associate member of this Lodge of Research.
Section 4. Rights of Associate Members. Associate Members who are active Master Masons in a grand jurisdiction recognized by the Grand Lodge of New Mexico shall have all the rights and privileges of Active Members except that of holding office or voting. Associate members may be appointed by the Worshipful Master to lodge committees, with the exceptions of Finance or Auditing committees. Associate Members who are not active Master Masons in a grand jurisdiction recognized by the Grand Lodge of New Mexico shall not participate in any tiled activities of this lodge.
Section 5. Petitions. Petitions for membership shall be made on the prescribed form, and shall be received at any Communication of this Lodge of Research. Action on such petition for membership may be had at that Communication of this Lodge of Research, and shall be without ballot.
ARTICLE II - OFFICERS
Section 1. The officers of this Lodge of Research shall be selected and installed as prescribed by the Laws of the Grand Lodge of New Mexico, AF & AM, except as otherwise modified herein.
Section 2. All officers must be Active Members.
Section 3. No one shall be eligible for the office of Worshipful Master who has not previously served as Worshipful Master of a regular symbolic Lodge, chartered by the Grand Lodge of New Mexico, AF & AM, or in a Masonic Jurisdiction recognized by the Grand of New Mexico, AF & AM. No one shall be eligible for the office of Warden who has not previously served as Warden of a regular symbolic Lodge, chartered by the Grand Lodge of New Mexico, AF & AM, or in a Masonic Jurisdiction recognized by the Grand of New Mexico, AF & AM.
Section 4. No officer shall receive any compensation for his services with the exception of the Secretary, the Treasurer and the Tyler. These officers shall receive such compensation as the Finance Committee may determine, subject to the approval of the Lodge.
ARTICLE III - COMMITTEES
Section 1. At the Stated Communication at which the Worshipful Master is installed, he shall appoint the membership of the Finance Committee, which shall consist of three Active members of this lodge. If appointed, the membership of the Auditing Committee shall consist of Active members. The Worshipful Master may appoint Active or Associate members to other committees as needed.
Section 2. The Committee on Finance shall oversee the finances of the Lodge of Research annually and as directed, examine the books of the Treasurer and Secretary; audit all expenditures; and make reports in writing to the Lodge of Research as necessary on its financial condition.
Section 3. The Worshipful Master, Secretary or Treasurer shall be empowered to pay all regular bills incurred between Regular and/or Stated Communications, but all such expenditures shall be reported at the next Regular or Stated Communication and approved by the Lodge.
ARTICLE IV - COMMUNICATIONS
Section 1. Regular (Stated) Communications of this Lodge shall be held on the third Saturday in February, June, and October, or on an alternate date at the call of the Worshipful Master upon 30 days notice to the membership.
Section 2. Officers shall be elected during the Regular Communication in October and installation of officers shall take place during a Special Communication in December following.
Section 3. Special Communications of this Lodge, on call of the Worshipful Master, may be held in the hall of any constituent Lodge of the Grand Lodge of New Mexico, on invitation of the host Lodge. Ten days notice of all such Special Communications shall be given all Members of this Lodge.
ARTICLE V - FEES AND DUES
Section 1. The affiliation fee for all classes of membership shall be ten ($10.00) dollars. This fee must accompany the petition and shall be paid only once.
Section 2. The annual dues shall be fifteen dollars ($15.00) for Active members and twenty dollars ($20.00) for Associate members, and are due and payable in advance on the first day of January each year.
Section 3. Members failing to pay current dues on or before December 31 shall be considered to have withdrawn.
Section 4. A request for restoration of membership following withdrawal, shall be made upon the form prescribed for membership and action shall be taken upon such request as outlined in Article I, Section 5. Dues for the current year must accompany the request. Except that restoration made within the year following withdrawal shall be accomplished, without petition, by payment of dues for the year in arrears and the current year.
ARTICLE VI - PUBLICATIONS
Section 1. This Lodge of Research may, at convenient intervals, publish its proceedings and transactions, and, in whole or in part, addresses, studies, articles and discussions of the Lodge of Research subject to the prior approval by the Lodge of Research of the expenses of such publication.
Section 2. All members in good standing are entitled to receive the publications of the Lodge of Research.
Section 3. When the expense of publication of any material may appear beyond the ability of the Lodge of Research to pay from its treasury, a charge in the amount sufficient to defray the cost of said publication may be made for such material, but no member is obligated to purchase any such publication.
ARTICLE VII - PROCEDURE
Section 1. Masonic law and procedure, as established by the Grand Lodge of New Mexico, AF & AM, shall govern this Lodge of Research in all its proceedings and actions, except as herein modified.
Section 2. All other matters not provided for in the Constitution and By-Laws of the Grand Lodge of New Mexico, AF & AM, or in the bylaws of this Lodge of Research, may be provided for by resolution at any Regular or Stated Communication; provided, that the resolution does not conflict with any law, resolution or edict of The Grand Lodge of New Mexico, AF & AM.

Second reading to, and approved by a unanimous vote of the members of the Lodge of Research present at the Installation Special Communication (also called for the vote on Bylaws), on December 17, 2010.
